Hello! My name is Nicholas Strickland, and I am from Silverdale, WA. As a first-year student at the University of Washington I am pursuing Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in Biomechanics, and I serve as our chapter's Philanthropy Chairman. This summer, I am dedicating my time to serving others by participating in one of The Ability Experience's cycling events, Journey of Hope. I will be joining a team traveling across the country in order to spread our message of empathy and acceptance for our friends with disabilities. Along the way, we will meet with dozens of organizations that support individuals with disabilities.
I have always had a strong passion for assisting individuals with special needs, whether through sports, mentorship, or in the classroom. Being able to encourage inclusion, build confidence, and create meaningful connections is something that truly motivates me. Supporting individuals with disabilities has shaped who I am and inspired my goal of studying human movement to design and improve assistive technologies - such as wheelchairs, walkers, and adaptive sports equipment - for individuals with cerebral palsy and other mobility challenges.240
