Buffalo to NYC: Riding So Everybody Belongs!
This summer I'm riding 560 miles across New York with The Ability Experience's Gear Up New York, from Buffalo through the Finger Lakes, the Catskills and Albany, all the way to New York City. Along the route, our team stops at disability service organizations for Friendship Visits, spending time with the people this mission is really about.
This will be my third ride with The Ability Experience. I rode the Virtual Journey of Hope during COVID and Gear Up Florida in 2021, and I keep coming back because this cause doesn't end when the ride does.
Here in Houston, I'm an MVP volunteer with the Everybody Belongs Club, which runs free inclusive workouts for athletes with disabilities. What gets me every time is that it gives everyone what so many of us had growing up: a team, a place to move, and people cheering you on. Being active has shaped my whole life, and everyone deserves that. I'm also a volunteer in the first Lifelong Learning with Friends class at Rice, where adults with and without disabilities learn side by side.
My goal is $5,000 by February. That's about $9 a mile, so sponsor a mile, ten miles, or a whole day on the bike. I'll post training updates here, so follow along, and please share this page.
Thank you for riding with me.
