My name is Carly Becerra, and I am a member of Delta Zeta at the University of North Georgia. I am a candidate for the Pi Kappa Phi War of the Roses where I am given the opportunity to raise money for The Ability Experience. The Ability Experience works and supports those with disabilities by creating spaces to have true, deep, and meaningful experiences. This philanthropy works with national events to connect with others and create those friendships rather than just “raising money”. Having the opportunity means so much to me, because I have always had the heart to help others and put others before myself. Since I was a little girl I always knew I wanted to become a teacher and over the years I have found my passion for wanting to teach High School Special Education. I have worked with children with disabilities and being able to understand them on a deeper connection and having a meaningful friendship means so much to me and even more so to them. Being able to work with them throughout high school has shown me that all they want to feel is to be heard, seen, understood, and most importantly welcomed like the rest of us. Being able to be a candidate for The Ability Experience is such a blessing and something that I will never forget. I am also beyond grateful and thankful for being able to represent Delta Zeta and I am so excited to give it my all this week. I know my sisters will always have my back and support me so being able to be in this position is the biggest blessing I could ever ask for and I will put my whole heart into this journey i’m about to enter!
